Confessions Of A Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson And Learned To Love Being Hated (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

Fun and funny--I loved Alison Arngrim's voice and perspective in this, on both the wonderful and horrible events in her life. It gets a bit rushed after she leaves Little House, which isn't so much a flaw as an indication that I could've happily spent a lot more time with her. I saw her speak at a bookstore last year, and she's just as wonderful in person as she is in writing. I hope to see her do her stand-up act one day. I'm on a roll for finding funny and wonderful books when I'm traveling. This time, I picked up Confessions of a Prairie Bitch at the MSP airport. I've never watched much of Little House on the Prairie, but that didn't matter one bit! This was a fascinating story about Alison Arngrim's life and the the characters that populated it. Her attitude and the way that she's been able to "make lemonade" from some of the hardest parts of her life was encouraging to read, and a personal balm for me as I read it. It was a fun read and held my attention the whole way through.

What do You think about Confessions Of A Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson And Learned To Love Being Hated (2010)?

A must read for anyone who grew up on the Little House series. This is a smart, funny, and wise memoir--but often very serious and poignant. In addition to some behind-the-scenes memories, Alison also discusses how character Nellie helped a shy girl, raped and beaten by her older brother beginning at the age of 6, find the emotional strength to deal with her feelings , and later, to help many others--as the Prairie Bitch.
