Coop: A Year Of Poultry, Pigs, And Parenting (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
Beautiful writing, as always. Perry is his usual introspective, humorous and insightful self. I was impressed by the respect and tenderness he shows his parents despite his somewhat different take on religion. It is easy to see, though, how much they have helped him become the loving father and human being he is, even though he is a bit hard on himself. (Aren't we all?)While I've never farmed, I could relate to the struggles and dedication farm life demands. Perry's little farm is a metaphor for life in many ways. Personally, I couldn't have killed the pigs,(Cocklebur and Wilbur), but I'm a sap. All in all, an expertly woven memoir, a tale of life and love, loss and reward. I don't remember exactly when I read this book, so the date is a lie. I read it before I read Truck, so I had to go back and catch up. I enjoyed Coop; it was a light read that fit my demographic well (um, "fumbling farmer with a young family" I guess you'd call that group). I am sorry, however, that I ever tuned in to listen to Michael Perry on Tent Show Radio- I liked his books much better before I had his "voice" in my head as I read them.
What do You think about Coop: A Year Of Poultry, Pigs, And Parenting (2009)?
Funny and sad. Not as good as some of his others, but still very well-written and fast paced.
