I sat huddled on the grass, trying to drown out their excited yips and barks as they loomed over me, their incisors snapping. An enormous wolf whose white fur was sprinkled with shades of butterscotch pushed through them. Though I had never seen Kincaid in his wolf, I knew instantly it was him. He leaned down, nudging me with his nose, his damp nostrils rubbing against my fur. He inhaled my scent to see if there was any blood to access how much damage had been done in the fall.To my surprise, he said nothing about the attempted escape. Instead, he barked orders to the others to return to their home base. “I will take care of her,” he barked. A few of the Vlodiks hesitated, but did as he commanded.After they left, he looked at me with what looked like concern in his eyes. “I can understand your desire to run, Kristen. I truly do. But you belong with us now. So it is better you don’t fight it. Change into your woman Kristen. It will be easier to take you back.” His furry gaze made me squirm and I hesitated.
