Curl Up And Dye (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

For 11 years, LilyAnn has been going through the motions of living but not much more than that. After her almost-fiancé is killed in the war in Afghanistan, Lily sinks into a life governed by her grief. It takes a stranger showing up in town whose car reminds her of Randy Joe’s to shake her out of her doldrums. But that stranger shakes up more than just Lily. For longer than Lily has been grieving for Randy Joe, Mike has been in love with Lily. Patiently waiting for Lily to come to her senses, Mike is now fearful the stranger could be a new rival for Lily’s affections. Set in the south, this story teems with interesting characters and plots twists as well as southern charm. The novel will tingle your spine as well as give you a warm fuzzy feeling. Oh my goodness, where to begin? This absolutely charming story features a heroine to root for, a hero to die for, and a town full of folks who sticks their noses into everyone's business - in a good way, of course! At the center of this story is the comforting retreat of a beauty shop known as The Curl Up And Dye. Owner Ruby "Sister" Dye and her cohorts keep the ladies (and a few men) of Blessings prettied-up and filled-up with gossip, but when there is someone in need of help, Ruby and the girls are the first ones to jump in to volunteer their advice and assistance. For years they have had their eyes on LilyAnn Bronte as a prime candidate for a make-over of both her hair and makeup and her love-life. And now that LilyAnn has finally begun to "wake up" after years of mourning the loss of her first love, everyone is cheering her on to find someone to love. And that someone is Mike Dalton, LilyAnn's next door neighbor and childhood pal. Mike has been waiting patiently for LilyAnn to notice that he has been there for her through thick and thin, but will his patience pay off or will the new guy who has blown into Blessing beat him to claim LilyAnn's hand first? I absolutely loved this novel - it has everything you could want in a great Southern fiction novel - fun characters, a great storyline, and the small town community that ties everyone all together. I highly recommend this wonderful book to anyone who loves a great story. I also highly recommend Sharon's novella, "Color Me Bad," which is the prequel to "The Curl Up And Dye." It's a great introduction to the folks of Blessings, Georgia!
