Damn Good Advice (For People With Talent!): How To Unleash Your Creative Potential By America's Master Communicator, George Lois (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
This book changed my mind.Or maybe it woke me back up.A while ago, I read Ogilvy's "Confessions of an Advertising Man", and while I got a ton of insight on leadership and early creative advertising, it wasn't the same as the advice offered in this book. This was inspiring and optimistic, regaling the readers with colorful anecdotes that proved the many GOOD effects advertising can have. Tons of nuggets of wisdom in here for anybody whose job requires creativity. This is the kind of creative manifesto that people of a certain type and accomplishment allow themselves to write at a certain point in their lives. It is filled with bombast and a fair share of self-congratulation, much like the author. But if anyone has earned a right to self-congratulate, it's George Lois. It's the kind of quick, breezy read that, if you're in the business of communication, can serve as a good reminder and regrounding as to the higher aspirations of the profession.
