Darcys At Year's End (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

Although the writing was good, I felt that the story was lacking. This seemed to be a book connecting two larger stories. Aside from that, I was annoyed by the repetitious, perfect sex, replete with too many I-love-you's. The pervasiveness of their need for each other slowed everything else. However, details and some side stories, like cousin Anne's marriage and the daring Dr. Darcy made the story livelier. Bottom line, fans of Austen may like this book, but it's written for fans of Harlequene romances. The book covers the time in their marriage while Lizzy is pregnant with their first child. The love between Elizabeth and Darcy is undeniable to the point where I thought it was too perfect but for those saps (like me) who love it that way, it works. My favorite words of devotion made by Darcy to his wife: "I would die without you, Elizabeth. I fear my heart would cease to beat. Words do not exist in the English language to convey how deeply I love you. You are my life and breath, my very soul." WOW who wouldn't love a man like Darcy after words of devotion like that!As with the other 2 novels that predecease this one, there are vivid descriptions over their feelings with each other which should be kept to the confines of their bedroom (hence my 3 star rating). This series also made me realize that it alludes to many scenes in the Keira Knightly version of P&P versus the book in alluding to scenes only in that film - where they meet in Pemberley, where he proposed, etc. I love the character development of Darcys uncle Dr Darcy and their relationship together in this novel and I laughed when he said: "You are becoming quite the trend setter, Mr Darcy. Marrying for love.. wearing a wedding ring, sharing one chamber, and now attending your childs birth. Folks may write books about you!". Darcy's sarcastic remark "Terrific, my lifes goal." OH if only he knew! Thats of course assuming he ever really existed beyond the confides of our minds LOL
