Das Geräusch Einer Schnecke Beim Essen (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

The snail information was fascinating. I had no idea they were so interesting. The author suffered from a debilitating virus that just kept recurring, and a friend brought her a snail. She couldn't do anything besides watch it, and she got interested in the lives of Gastropoda as she kind of fit in that category herself for a while. The haiku quotes at the beginning of chapters, as well as excerpts from both old and contemporary scientific books on snails, were great and made me want to investigate further. I picked up this book because it seemed to be a quick read (190 pages) while I was waiting for another download for a library book to be available. Wow! What a surprise. Who knew snails could be so facinating? The author is a victim of a strange disease that keeps her bedridden. A friend brought her a pot of violets she had dug up in the woods, and there just happened to be a snail in residence. She becomes fascinated with his movements and motives and begins her research. They are intelligent little creatures who know how to adapt and get the most out of their slow, quiet lives. This book is not just for naturalists, but anyone who loves a book about living with limitations and embracing who you are. There is a wonderful You Tube video for the book that actually has audio of the sound of a snail eating. The slow progress of the snail across the scene is mesmerizing, and it is a wonderful destresser. You can actually feel yourself relaxing as you watch. Recommended for all.

What do You think about Das Geräusch Einer Schnecke Beim Essen (2012)?

This is such a sweet little book. The only thing I don't understand is how she survived financially.
