De Kelderkinderen: Het Gruwelijke Verhaal Achter De Zaak Fritzl (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a rough book to get through. The subject matter is very disturbing (which is something I almost never say) and I would not recommend it for most people. The author does a good job over all throughout. The only small problem I had with it is there were many times that the same fact was repeated. This became somewhat annoying. If you are interested in the event(s) of this book then give it a go. Just fair warning there is a lot in the book that will stay in your mind for a while. Wow, what a disturbing story - but I knew that getting into it.I really enjoyed how the writer portrayed the story. He covered all of the important aspects without dwelling on them for too long. You got the background information on both Josef Fritzl and Elisabeth along with the rest of the family so you understood their mentality when she went missing, which kept me from wondering "how could these people not know what is going on?"You also received enough information to leave you a bit terrified but not too much to make it too graphic. The research done was thorough and informative, taking you from background to as much as is known about Elisabeth's 24 years underground to how the family is reintegrating into society.I wish they had gone more into the court case but I am guessing that at the time this was published, it hadn't happened yet. I did look up what sentence Josef eventually ended up receiving because I was curious on the final verdict.I would recommend this as a true crime read. Really makes you wonder what is going on behind closed doors and how a person can be so mentally deranged.

What do You think about De Kelderkinderen: Het Gruwelijke Verhaal Achter De Zaak Fritzl (2000)?

The facts in this bizarre case are well presented but beyond that the reader is left wanting.
