I've has this book for ages and it kept getting pushed to the back of the queue. I've been in a real reading slump, which means my target for the year has fallen drastically. Jon was in a car accident which left him injured and his wife dead. Jon is a complex character but his backstory, emotions and development are quite stunted in this book. He could be multi-dimensional but the author hasn't shown it effectively. It's a shame because the potential is there.Leander is a psychic who becomes Jon's roommate after he answers Jon's roommate advert. Jon inadvertently gets swept up in Leander's (nickname Andy) cases whether he likes it or not. The cases are quick and to the point, nothing fancy about them. It's more about Andy's mechanics of the whole thing. He's a sweet character but like Jon the basis is there but the author hasn't fully unleashed their full potential.A very quick and easy read, with likeable characters who could be so much more if the author tried a little harder. Love the voice of grumpy, cynical Jon. Andy is a bright and cheery contrast, and they suit each other perfectly. The novella format works for the solving of these small but not insignificant crimes. Andy's psychic ability is fascinating and worthwile. I am glad that Gary appreciates the help he can bring. I love when he tries to explain to Jon why he gets involved, and I love that Jon is so protective of him.Hope there are more.
