I lifted my head to see a woman standing at my table, her coffee cup balanced in one hand and a plate with a pastry in the other. At first she just looked like any other woman and I presumed that she simply wanted to ask if she could share my table. But then I saw something in her eyes. I had a vague feeling that even I might have looked like this when I was just a few years old. The look in her bright blue eyes almost sucked me in, as if she were a child and wanted to ask me to play. Her smile was warm, but with a hint of nervousness, as if she was unsure of herself and why she had spoken. I could not resist smiling back at her and it made her look a little more confident. “It’s just…I saw your scarf when I came in. It’s breath-taking. I’m really sorry to bother you…I’m sure you must think I’m some kind of weirdo for asking you this, but where did you buy it?
