Some parts of this book are very interesting from a scientific perspective. and others have a great imagery and sensory details, but what is most strongly conveyed is the author's anxiety and almost neurotic personality traits. The way she ended the book gave me some hope that she has relaxed and let go a bit, but I struggled through the last fifty pages or so because I wanted to tells her to stop beating herself up for having suffered an injury and subsequent loss.I would recommend this book to people who love food or have a curiosity about the often underrated sense of smell; memoir junkies might also enjoy it. I read it and suddenly I contacted the author, I live in Italy and I would be liked it was translated in italian, but it was not so simple and at this moment no Italian editor has bought it. With this book you can appreciate a sense that in the modern life we use to forget. With the industrialisation of food a lot of it has similar taste, but if you know your sense you will be able to recognise and to search the real good food.
Essential reading for poets. Much to be learned about the sense of taste and the sense of smell.

Was a bit boring in places where it explained certain things in quite detailed medical terms.
