Die Tagebücher (German Edition) (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
I didn't know much about the man besides his reputation (from more 'sensational' rather than 'studied' accounts it must be said!) but what an absolutely fascinating person! In many ways a mass of contradictions, but vastly talented and of much more depth, and of surprising (to me) conviction and interests than I imagine contemporary film 'stars' could even aspire to be. Despite his self-destructive behaviour -the catalyst(s) of which made me very sad and reflective, he lived the most extraordinary life. Modern celebrities seem even more bland and vacuous after reading this. You could easily skim about 1/4th of it, but what is worth reading is terrific. Burton was a better writer in his diaries than most professional scribes. Didn't know he shacked up with Jeanne Bell(of TNT JACKSON fame). Way to go, fella! Burton read 3 books a day and offers some insightful mini-reviews, plus talks of food and women(but not of booze, strangely). His deterioration is sad as some late 70s entries just list for a day "Booze." For once, a showbiz diary worth reading.
What do You think about Die Tagebücher (German Edition) (2013)?
A complex and very charming man. He wasn't only a fenomenal actor but also a great reader.
