Funny and entertaining: brain candy (fluff, read for fun). A woman whose family is on the run from a religious group since her great x 4 grandparents defected from the Covenant once they decided that the monsters in the world-known as "cryptids" (waheelas, cuckoos, Aeslin mice, and bogeymen/women among many many others) needed studying rather than being wiped from the planet. But she also has a passion for free-running and ballroom dancing. Given a year by her parents to decide which she will choose, Verity Price lives in Manhattan and discovers a dragon sleeping under the city. This was a fun, quick read and McGuire continues to create really fascinating worlds. The mice are so great that I almost bumped this up to a four star rating for them alone. However, Verity isn't as interesting as the world she lives in. I wanted more from her interpersonal life and from the non-mice around her. It is the first in the series and I have faith that the next few installments that McGuire will be able to spend more time with the characters, now that she's established the rules of the universe.
What do You think about Discount Armageddon (2012)?
I think this is the beginning of a fun new series.
