Dragon Ball, Vol. 1 (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

I've never been one to read manga. There are a couple of reasons for this: reading from right to left, no color, and dozens of volumes just to appeal to me. However, this edition of Dragon Ball has some color and is only in three gigantic volumes. I must almost mention that with the exception of a handful of anime, I've never been a fan of that either. But Dragon Ball is one of them.I don't know how closely this resembles the dubbed version of the show, but it captures the spirit and feel of what I've watched very well. Goku's still innocent of the world and because of that innocence I laughed especially with his "pat-pat." All the supporting characters are great though it is weird to see them in their beginnings because I'm used to their DBZ versions. Though I admit, Bulma and Master Roshi don't really change.I was a bit disappointed in the coloring. I loved it, but why only have a few small parts in color? It just made it bit of a tease. What can I say about an almost 15 year old manga that's one of if not THE successful manga of all time especially since I'm new to this genre? If you haven't read it and enjoy manga, go read it! NOW!Will this convert me to reading manga? Probably not. I think I'll just stick to the animes I've liked along with the oversized editions if they have them. They should all be in color though. I'm trying to get into some older, classic comics (1985 is classic by now, right?), and DragonBall has been on my list for a while.Toriyama has an impeccable, precise style and he draws the most expressive characters I've seen in manga. I thought I would be turned off by the endless stream of poop and sex jokes but I actually found them charming.Anyway, this is a lot of fun, and Toriyama draws the best cars and planes and hovercrafts.

What do You think about Dragon Ball, Vol. 1 (2008)?

Dragon Ball is one of the most fun comics out there. The jokes are funny and the art is great.
