PlotJack and Annie travel through time on cool adventures to help their friend, Merlin. On this adventure of “The Dragon Of The Red Dawn” Jack and Annie are on a mission to find the secret to happiness. Through the long journey they dodge Samurais and ride dragons, but the one thing so many try so hard to find, Jack and Annie find in a matter of simple kind actions. The pursuit of happiness isn't as far as some think, sometimes it could be right under your nose. Characterization Jack and Annie are brother and sister who are usually called on by their friend, Merlin, who owns “The Magic Tree House.” On their adventure to Japan, they meet a master poet named Basho. Basho is well respected by all the Samurai and all the village people. Basho is a very brave man who can fight flames and still care for so many people. SettingThe story of the “Dragon Of The Red Dawn” takes place in the 1600’s in one of Japan's famous cities called Edo. During this time Japan was very skeptical of outsiders so the public had to carry passports with them everywhere they went. The Samurai are the ones who enforced the law which made it difficult for Jack and Annie to complete their mission. Basho covered them as his students when Jack and Annie had there first run in with the Samurai. Thematic Connection The message in “Dragon Of The Red Dawn” is a complex one. It starts with the goal of finding true happiness, but how do you find what you can’t see. Jack and Annie search for the secret to happiness, but they soon figure it out. The secret to happiness is being truly happy with who you are, what you have, and being helpful to your fellow man. I can follow that message and I hope others can too. Recommendation I highly recommend this book to all ages K-12 because it teaches manners and how to be a more respectful person. This book is well written and well worded. I enjoyed the plot and the climax of the book. I hope many enjoy this book as much as I did.

Jack and Annie heard that Merlin was tuning ill so they had to find happiness in Japan because that would help Merlin get better. When they got to Japan it was really dry, it was so dry that there was a fire because the ponds had dried up.There was a legend of a dragon who can command the clouds, so the dinosaur brought them to the fire he made a really big storm and all the ponds and lakes and rivers filled up with water. After the rain stopped a man named Basho gave them a poem which said:"An old pond,a frog jumps in-the sound of water."Now they need to find the next two verses and then Merlin will get better, which is a good excuse to move on to Monday with a Mad Genius

I choose this book because I find the "Magic Tree House" series interesting with all the crazy happenings going on in the series, in this book it involves a dragon. The plot of this book is to save their magician, Merlin who gives them magic to get to Japan to find him. They run into a famous poet, Bashu, who is famous for haiku poetry. My favorite quote from the story is, "The dragon reached out its claws. They were like the claws of an eagle-only a thousand times bigger! The claws gripped the side of the mountain." This quote to me, shows a lot of imagery and exaggerates the size of the claws, which makes it my favorite quote. Mary Pope Osbornes writing style tends to appeal to kids and likes to use imagery and she shows, not tells. I would recommend this book and the whole series to children who enjoy reading fantasy and monsters.
