Dragonfly Falling (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

i didn't like this installment in the series.i was quite fond of the first book, but ii felt like this one lacked both character development, and plot development. both were there, but felt mediocre. i really feel like the first two books could have been one novel, as reading them both in one sitting basically feels like one stretched out novel.theres also an aspect of character development in this book that makes me want to facepalm whenever a certain character makes life choices. it just feels too much like a cheap adolescent romance that doesn't do a lot to advance the plot.all that being said, i know its kind of cheating, but book 3 and later books are actually much better. so i don't want to discourage people from reading this series just because the second book falls a little flat Brilliant! The book continues on from the previous one following on directly from the events in the previous book Empire In Black And Gold. Many of the issues facing the characters are still present as they were in the previous book with our 'heroes' and 'villians' wrestling with their motivations, greed and ambition. As with the previous book the characters are all very three-dimensional even down to the smallest characters. It is a very clever side that characters only mentioned briefly but given agood discription in the previous book are now met and fleshed out in this book to take on some of the page coverage! There are plenty of twists and turns. It has relentless pace! One of the clever things was with Stenwold who in the previous book had been trying to convince his city Collegium and the wider Lowlands to come round to his cause, the fact that they do was realistically handled and leads on to one of the great battle scenes of the book! Further parts of the lowlands are explored with the Mantis and Ant Sarn playing a greater part. All throughout the book the characters all continue to develop in many intereting and unexpected ways (there is a dry humour that runs through many of the scenes) all this amongst the myriad adventures and battles that feature throughout it! Excellent Stuff! :D
