Dragons Love Tacos (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

This book is exactly what the title says it is about. This book starts with the author telling a character in the story about how much dragons love to eat tacos. The author also tells the person in the story all the different ways and types of tacos dragons love to eat and how they like to enjoy eating them. Then the story goes to the boy in the book wanting to throw a taco eating party for the dragons. The boy gets all of the things and makes tacos for all of the dragons. But the one thing the Author tells him to remember not to feed the dragons is salsa with the tiny spicy green peppers in it. This salsa the dragons don't lie and if they eat that salsa people better run. So the character is having all the dragons over but didn't realize the salsa had green spicy peppers in it, The dragons are eating al of the salsa and suddenly they don't feel so good. SO because of the salsa the dragons all start to breath fire inside the boy's house. One thing leads to another and the boys house gets burned down. The dragons felt bad helped the boy build a new house. To thank the dragons the boy made them tacos and buried the salsa with green spicy peppers in it so the dragons couldn't eat it. I would have the students draw a picture of a food that they didn't like to eat and then draw themselves as a dragon like in the story eating that food they didn't like accidentally and upsetting their stomach so bad that they breath fire. Then they would share it with the whole class. Citation-Dragons love tacosBy: Rubin, Adam, and Daniel Salmieri.Dial Books for Young Readers2012 The reader learns on the first page that dragons love tacos. The narrator tries to figure out the reason behind this love and learns that while they love tacos, they hate spicy salsa. Then we learn that dragons love parties, but the best parties must have tacos. While the dragons enjoy their taco party the mild salsa isn't actually mild but has jalapeños in it. The spicy salsa has the dragons breathing fire everywhere and they end up burning down the house. The book ends with the dragons being good samaritans and helping the reader rebuild their house. The theme in this book is food. The book talks about food on every page, from tacos to taco toppings. The teacher can have the students write about their favorite food. Then students can write a how-to piece that describes how to make your custom taco. You can add in some fun by letting students give their taco a unique name and draw a picture.
