Artemis, orphaned and forced to live with her self absorbed first cousin as a ladies companion. Maximus, Duke of Wakefield, loses his parents at a young age and struggles with guilt over his parents death, his conscious, and the need for vengeance. While trying to help her twin brother, locked in Bedlam, she tries to get the Duke to help, by blackmail. Artemis' a very likable, strong, heroin, and Maximus, a Duke who is used to getting what he wants, without question, duel it out and make a good match. I enjoyed the book and will read the rest in the series. (I received this book from a good reads giveaway) This was my first book by Elizabeth Hoyt, and I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot (all except the love scenes which were just too explicit for my taste!). This is the kind of book I love to read when I just want a fun, relaxing read. Great characters, especially Amanda Greaves...I was impressed with Hoyt's ability to write convincingly real conversations (especially those of Amanda's air-headed cousin). I love it when a woman gets the best of a man, and Amanda was wonderful at doing that! Even though Maximus often came across as pompous and arrogant as a man of his station would be, you still come to empathize and understand the pain underlying it.I will definitely be reading more books by Elizabeth Hoyt, especially reading the other books in the Maiden Lane Series. I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads, but the words of this review are my own.
What do You think about Duke Of Midnight (2013)?
I wonder if this means no more Ghost of St Giles?
