Dusk With A Dangerous Duke (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Easily my least favourite book of the series. SO. MANY. ISSUES.Firstly, that the books seem to regularly miss some important chapters containing plot resolution is making me genuinely angry now. What is the point of trying to get us to invest in your characters when you don't reward us with a proper conflict resolution?!Secondly, Hunter's the LOV I've always been least interested in. I mean AH has never logically dropped sequel bait in this series, but seriously we know practically nothing about Hunter at this point apart from the fact that he supplied the premises for Nox, and that he's been betrothed to someone since he was a child. So do we get to see him man up, and deal with the betrothal fulfillment conditions after dreadfully abandoning his fiancee for nearly two decades? Nope, don't count on it. He acts like a complete child for most of the book, apparently conveniently using Grace as the most ideal outlet for all his resentment. What a dick. He finally does get around to an actual "courtship" but really it's only because now she wants nothing to do with him and he's apparently still 12 years old. My sympathy for him being betrothed at age 12 to a 2 year old infant can only go so far.And JFC how overbearing was he? He drugs her, kidnaps her and takes her to Gretna Green, and marries her with her apparent "consent" and under absolutely certain duress. And then right before he actually gets to sexing her up, he has a *miraculous* emotional turnaround, has supposedly fallen in love with her and now wants to wait till she forgives him for all his past transgressions. And for a LOV my GAWD did he become TSTL. That's the first time I've ever used it in conjunction with an HR hero btw. Instead of turning on the sneaky rakishness to the max (like Sin. Or Reign. Or Dare (oh Dare *sigh*). Or Vane. Or Saint. You get the picture) to charm/seduce/whatever his way into Grace's good graces, he turned into the biggest asshole man-child I've ever read. ANd how did he decide to atone for being such a giant asshat? BY BEING AN EVEN BIGGER ONE. HOW IN HELL DID YOU EVER GET LAID YOU BIG USELESS DILDO?! And don't try to put this on Grace by saying she has a knack for provoking you!And was it just me or was the villain really obvious? Arrogant dukes always seem to underestimate their greedy, grasping relations and the depths they'll sink to. And at the end, was I the only one thinking "My GOD stop tarrying in the burning house to confess your love to each other, have neither of you ever heard of smoke inhalation!??!!?" And then when they casually walk out of the house while others are breaking in trying to evacuate anyone left inside, I was pretty much yelling "WALKING OUT?!?!? FFS RUN YOU IDIOTS! OR DO I HAVE TO SHOW YOU THAT FIRE SAFETY VIDEO ABOUT HOW QUICKLY FIRE CAN DESTROY ROOMS?!!?!?!!"Nothing about this HEA reads true or believable. It even manages to get me to like Frost the least amount I have liked him in the entire series. Unforgiveable.Minor point: I really wish at some point his established nickname for her was "my Grace" as opposed to the "Your Grace" she was destined to be. How cute would that have been? Oh well, nvm. The 6th book of the Lords of Vice series. I have loved this series from the first chapter of All Night With A Rogue. You come to know all seven of the Lords in each book. They have their parts in each story to reveal something of themselves so you can't wait to read their story or hear more about them afterwards. I have read each boos in one sitting because I can't seem to put them down after I start - but this one it took me a couple days. I was disappointed in how the story was told and how the book ended. It seemed to drag on and on with her not wanting to marry him (even though it really was her only choice). And then boom - married and in love within the last couple chapters. The ending seemed so rushed - especially since neither one proclaimed love until the last page. There were a lot of things let unexplained also. Out of the 6 books so far this was my least favorite. I am hoping Frost's story (7th and final book) is better. I am not disappointed that I read the book seeing I pretty much loved the other 5 books - just disappointed that Hawkins didn't put more effort into this book like she did the others.
What do You think about Dusk With A Dangerous Duke (2013)?
