Echappe-toi, Mon âme (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Brief comments. . . This novella and works well as a teaser for the series, though you enter the storyline a good way into the series, so there are references that would make more sense if you'd already read the prior books. And the author does warn that if you are a fan of the series there is a spoiler contained within the novella - so readers are forewarned. Though the author is clearly targeting the YA scene, the storyline is still enticing enough to make adult readers want to go to the beginning and find out more about the characters and backstory. And for those who like romance, but are sick to death of the same sex scenes with differently colored costumes (depending upon the time period) and the same tired, over-used euphemisms for what happens during foreplay and sex - then YA series can help change things up, as they only go so far, or skip right over the tedious descriptions (and yes, I know - those "tedious descriptions" are often the attraction of 'Romance' novels for many people, for me, they are the sections I tend to gloss over In favor of returning to the plot [unless they fall into the rare category of being central to the plot, well-written, unique, and/or surprising - as good examples of this I tend to think of the series "Outlander" and "Kusheil's Legacy," by Diana Gabaldon and Jaqueline Carey respectively]). Then there is the attractive of the fantasy/paranormal aspect to this series - at least if this novella is anything like the rest of the series, which I can only imagine it is. More to come after reading at least some of the series. . . Excellent, excellent! Rachel Vincent never dissapoints, and even a 60 page novella from our least-favorite cousin’s pov is no exception. Sophie, cousin to our main girl Kaylee, gets her own little taste of the supernatural world. We meet a couple new characters (okay, really just one. but he’s HOT), and a whole lot of old ones, including some we hoped to never see again. Lets just say that we may not have seen the last of a certain sadistic reaper. Fans of the series will love it, and be itching for more. (and you’re in luck! Before I Wake, book 6, just came out!)

What do You think about Echappe-toi, Mon âme (2013)?

Short novella. It didn't blow me away, but I liked it better than the last full-length book.

I have a new found fondness for Sophie. She's not such a prissy little ## after all. Maybe.
