Ecko Rising (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

DNF1/5didn't even get through chapater one after the prologue. After too many amateur adverbs, adjectives, and an opening action scene that throws you right into the thick of it and tries to drown you, I just couldn't get along with this. Part of it is cultural difference perhaps -- the US vs UK writing approach. There's British slang in here, plus it takes part in London (which I'm usually fine with), but right off the bat, it rubbed me the wrong way, and immediately throws the reader into choppy, poorly executed action and sci-fi jargon. Not to mention the abuse of elipses and the over-stylized use of hyphens.Oooof! Just bad. If these aren't rookie mistakes, then they are editor overlooks. And if they aren't either, than I simply hate this style, be she a writer from any country on the planet. What a great idea for a book though. And yet, what a large 500+ page turd from a publicists and "event organizer" turned author (Ms. Danie W) who obviously pulled some strings with some contacts to publish her choppy, deeply flawed book. Maybe the novel is great, but I skimmed through the middle and can't imagine reading over 500 pages of this. It's me, not you, Danie. Actually, it is you, too. It's not that I'm an American. I love some British authors and most have never bothered me like this. It's not a nationality or diction thing, it really is an overall execution thing.Reading the opening 32 pages of books like this one reminds me I can certainly get publish one day with my fiction.1/5MH Well as with the last books I have been reading, another cliffhanger. Now the wait is on for the next installment of ECKO.I enjoyed the storyline. The twists of magical, mythical, alchemical, futuristic and past and Dr. Who style. A pub, the Wanderer as the Tardis. Real sweet. I do recommend to those who have desire to lose themselves in a good book. I still don't recommend for kids under ... say 16, unless of course you are a parent that does not mind your child reading the F word multiple times per page. But hey, who am I other than a reader that really did enjoy the book. Judge for yourself and enjoy!
