Een Verleidelijk Voorstel (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

A Perfect Proposal by Katie Fforde is not something that I would normally read but something made me reach out and get a copy. I’m not sure if it was my brain telling me that I needed to read something light or if in the spur of the moment I had lost my mind.Turns out I liked the book. The only reason that it did not get four starts from me is that I didn’t find that the story ran as smoothly as it could. I loved the plot line but I just felt that some of the sentences did work together? I’m not sure if I’m explaining this right. Let’s try it this way I felt the story was created by an artist but it was colored in by someone that can’t stay inside the lines? Please remember that it’s not bad it’s just that the words might seem to end a bit abrupt? If our looking for a quick light read then this is the book for you. It’s a nice refreshing way to pass the time on a long flight. Or even if you need a break from reading those books that make you think or that draw you in until you finish it making you think about it even when you’re at work or school. This book had too many characters to love, and of course a certain family that makes me roll my eyes… the money grubbers. I loved the main character but the characters that made me grin the most were a certain Grandmother and an ‘Evil’ uncle. Those two are great, no seriously they are read the book just for them if the plot line is not something that you would like. Most of the characters in this book have development so you will be able to see them grow as the story goes on, and at the end of the book you will see that they are not as much like they were at the start of the story which is something that I find refreshing! Now I’m not someone that really enjoys romance stories (to all you who know me you can stop rolling your eyes and saying ‘no really?’) Something about the girl finding the perfect man and them getting together irks me, and I don’t know why…. So as far as the romance part of this story goes I am the wrong person to ask if it is well done or not. Sorry about that.Overall this is a well done novel and I would suggest that you give it a chance if it is something that interests you. This book should have had my name on it. It had everything I love in a ‘chicklit’ novel, two adorable main characters, a sassy best friend and well-rounded ‘stock characters’ who you will either love to hate to just fall for. As for the meddling aunt Matilda, I love her to the moon and back. Sophie is one of the most relatable characters I’ve come across in a long time, it’s easy to relate to a family that lays a lot on you at times (although maybe not to the same extent as Sophie’s family!). Fforde has a way of breathing life into characters in a way I’ve only experienced in this genre with Jill Mansell. I instantly felt for Sophie, her life takes bizarre turns and eventually she ends up in NYC with no job and very little money where she meets the eccentric Matilda at an art gallery and after that her life gets more and more insane. For the best of reasons. There’s also the ‘swoon factor’, which I always seem to get when reading books by Fforde and Luke is no exception, his ‘Darcy Like’ demeanour instantly attracted to me. I just cant help falling for their ‘opposites attract story’ and although the ending predictably ends happy as I’ve said in most of the chick lit I’ve read: If I doesn’t end happily Id feel cheated. I read them for the twists in the story. Not a twisted ending. It is a gentle book. Full of interesting plot and easy to love charecters and what we all crave: A happy ending. In my opinion this book ticks all the boxes in my ‘chick lit check list’.Katie Fforde has given us another gift, a novel that is easy and quick to read, with a story you can’t help but fall into and enjoy. I admit it is clichéd, and you can guess the plot from reading the synopsis but if you enjoy this genre I highly recommend this book.

What do You think about Een Verleidelijk Voorstel (2010)?

A perfectly lovely romance. Characters and writing are much above the average.
