I received this book free from LibraryThing in exchange for a review - there was a delay in the delivery, so I received it a few months late, but it was worth waiting for! This book was so cute and funny, and it actually contained great dating tips! The Geek's Guide covers a variety of topics from how to meet people, how to assess your personal stats and find someone who compliments them, date ideas, pre-date prep work, how to get to the next level (pun intended) and even how to survive a break up. While the book is geared toward boy geeks, Smith does note that almost all tips are useful to lady geeks as well. Personally, I'm not looking to date, but I found this book to be a lot of fun! It made me LOL IRL and I loved all the pop culture references. This book is also a joy to look at - Kick Pixel did a wonderful job on the art work. This book nailed the humor, delivered on dating advice for the nerd-minded, and supplied beautiful graphics. I'm glad I read it and I wish it was twice as long! There was a time being a geek meant you were smart and maybe a little socially awkward and less conventionally attractive than average. (Think Farmer Ted in Sixteen Candles.) Now I guess it means that you embrace a certain type of pop culture....a gamer or hacker or Sci-Fi fan. I'm not the target market for this book. As others have complained, it's very focused on straight men who are almost certainly white. And I'm already in a relationship (thankfully he's not a geek by any definition) but I have dated geeks in the past. I thought it would be interesting and funny -- insight into how the other half lives. It was not. It was dreadful, actually. I didn't know what he was talking about most of the time, but even when I did, it wasn't funny or insightful. If geeks need this much advice on how to make themselves interesting and attractive to a woman....trust me, no book is going to help. Not even this one. Especially not this one.
What do You think about Ein Herz Für Nerds (2014)?
Not what I thought it would be, not all geeks are guys.
