Eine Dreckige Schande - Ein J.J.-Graves-Krimi, Buch 2 (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Dirty Shame is a great follow-up to Dirty Secrets, the first book in the series. This book delves deeper into the J.J.'s family background and the stigma she endures from the small southern community. The friendship is complicated and awkward between J.J. (coroner) and Jack (detective)once she comes back to town after being brutally attacked months earlier. I really like these two characters. Each have their own history to overcome, but a grisly murder brings them together again(ah, the glue that binds). Their relationship changes throughout the book. The story is tightly written, the plot well paced, and there are plenty of suspicious characters and motives to go around. The classic faults of small town living are clearly evident. Due to J.J.'s occupation as coroner, some of the descriptions of the bodies are quite graphic. Maybe not for the faint of heart. It is evident that a lot of research went into those descriptions. The first book was pretty good until the end which seemed rushed and was frustrating as a reader. The romance aspect in the first book was also lacking, in my opinion, but the second book makes up for all of that. You learn a lot more about JJ and her parents and the relationship with Jack becomes a lot more believable than the relationship with Brody. The second book had a good balance of mystery, wit and romance. I'm looking forward to the third...

A reasonable follow-up to the first book, but not outstanding.
