El ángel Caído (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This book was a very, very pleasant suprise. I tried this author once in the past but was unimpressed and couldn't even finish the book. I'm glad I went with my gut and tried her other series (this one) as it proved much more enjoyable. The world building in this book is breath taking, its so like the world today that it is believable but still so unlike the world (or any I've ever read) that it is fresh and exciting. The heroine was almost instantly likable to me...she is crass without being crude, she is strong without being masculine and she is unbreakable while still remaining human. She is everything I adore about a female lead and everything I love reading about. The hero was very intriguing, at times he was confusing and unpredictable (which served to continously remind me he was not human)....as this plotline progressed you could literally see him becoming more human and changing his behaviors and reactions.Supporting characters brought a lot to the table and I don't think I've read a more scary villian in all my days....I was shaking with anticipation and nerves by the climax of this book praying that our cast would get through it unharmed, there are casulaties in every war though.I don't see how anything else she writes could possibly top this read as this book brings everything to the table...I will say though, I look forward to finding out and highly reccommend this read to any paranormal/suspense fans out there! This series has been recommended to me time and time again and to be honest I have kept putting it off reading because I tried Nalini Singh's other series Psy-Changling and was not really a fan however Cinda and "girls" started twisting my arm harder and I made a deal that I would read this book if she would read a book she was hesitant about reading. I started out listening via audiobook and was struggling to connect to the characters and get into the story, when I explained this to the "girls" Lani insisted that I needed to switch to the novel for a first read and I did..WOW.. It made a HUGE difference, I started connecting to the characters right away and got totally swept up in the story line. In the end I loved it and am having to start reading book 2 immediately. I have read several romances by Nalini Singh mostly Harlequin books and I really enjoyed them so Nalini is not a new to me author. I realize she does get over descriptive at times but once I started to read and not listen to the book it didn't bother me at all. Raphael was really a difficult character to love in the beginning but as you read his personality changed and grew and you couldn't help but start to love him as he started to love Elena. Elena I liked from the beginning. She reminded me a bit of Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniels and Jeaniene Frost's Cat both kickass heroines who I adore. Elena has a lot going on and I am hoping as the series progresses we learn more about her history and what makes her tick. I am also hoping that we have a bit more world building coming up in future novels. The story arc is really unique with the use of Vampires being the "enthralled" and Archangels being angels...but not. All this has really tweeked my UF interest and although I can't rave about this first novel as much as some I have read I am very interested in reading more in this series. I give book one a 3.75 stars and am rushing into book two right away! Thanks "girls" for the push this might end up on a favorites shelf yet! *note: I don't recommend your first read to be audiobook...leave that for a reread*

What do You think about El ángel Caído (2011)?

I don't know what to say. Just couldn't connect with the story or characters. I was very bored.
