I'm very torn in regards to the rating for this book, I struggled with it throughout the entire novel because there were so many parts I loved and so many others that I detested. At the start of the novel, when the reader's first got Jason's POV and were starting to learn a little bit about him, I was so intrigued and new that this was going to be a great read. However then I met Jason's love interest Mahiya, to say I disliked her is an understatement. Nalini Singh is known for making strong character's despite the cruelty and torture they experienced within their life, with Mahiya she chose to create her character from the same cloth but with a little different fabric. Mahiya was weak as an angel and a fighter, but her strength came from her will where she refused to revel in hatred and anger, that anyone would succumb to if they lived through her childhood. For that I commend Mahiya but I was constantly bored and annoyed by her character, and felt she was not the match I had previously thought for Jason. Therefore is the result of my dislike for the story. Jason on the other hand, my goodness Nalini Singh did a remarkable job in creating this broken, tortured, spymaster. Jason was such an intriguing/ heartbreaking character to learn about, he truly has my heart. The detective/ mystery concept within this story was pretty simple and easy to understand, which is a huge surprise considering that the author truly enjoys her complex and clustered mysteries. That being said it was still engaging due to the fact that it was so simple, possibly I enjoyed it more because it was so different. The sideline characters *cough*Dmitri and Honor*cough* were fabulous, I found myself reading their small bits over and over again. It picked up right where Archangel's Blade ended and I am so happy that the author chose not to end their story with their novel, but continued on with their story in Archangel's Storm. Considering my review I have to say I think I am confident with the four star rating, due to the fact that I loved every bit of this story except for the main heroine... This book was slow for me. I didn't connect with Jason the way I have with the others. I did like that we still get a peak into the lives of Dmitri and Honor that is actually continued right from the ending of Archangel's Blade. Also I love that Singh continues along the same pattern of strong women characters. Mahiya has suffered but never let any of it break her. "Don't be arrogant, and I shall not have to be sharp in return." Teasing words but her intent was pure steel. "I am a woman grown," she said. "I know who I am, and I understand the choices I make-if what you can give me isn't enough, I'll walk away. I will not blame you for my choice, so let it be my choice."
What do You think about La Tormenta Del Arcángel (2013)?
Ms. Singh just keeps getting better and better. I was up all night to finish this one. loved it!
