Elly: My True Story Of The Holocaust (2007) - Plot & Excerpts
Elly: My True Story of the Holocaust is a great book. It was nice when she put a big German word down, at the end of the chapter she would put the meaning of it. I've read this book before, but it was confusing at points. Now that I have read it twice, it makes a lot since. It's really sad when Elly's brother and mother are put to die and she is put to work, but she believes it's her fault because she should have told her mother to give her brother to somebody else so she could live. The Holocaust just goes to show how one person can ruin millions of other people's live and think it's okay. That just goes to show how lucky we are. Elly, My True Story of the Holocaust by Elly Berkovits Gross is an auto biography about a 15 year old girl separated from her family and sent to Auschwitz, liberation camps, in 1944. Elly experiences some of the worst things ever! Since the author of this story is the story, she survived it. “It”, as being the most horrifying thing ever. After months of being in Auschwitz, she gets sent off to another camp being slightly better. When Elly finally becomes free, she comes home but where is her mother, father, and brother? Elly Berkovits Gross is a great author showing how she survived the liberation camps. Berkovits Gross, sends a very important lesson in life through this book, to be grateful. That she encountered the most painful experiences in life. This story makes you feel grateful about what you have and that you don't have to drink yellow metallic water or sandy soup, that you don't have to inhale fumes of paint. That you don't have to share a blanket with 17 other people. It's a lesson that will stay with you for the rest of your life. I recommend this great autobiography to people who like reading about survivors from the liberation camps. This book is about the Nazi's and how they treated the Jew's, so people interested in history or true story's should read this book. Elly Berkovits Gross's true story is so interesting, so anyone will enjoy reading this story that has surprises, suspense, and sorrow. You will just want to keep reading about her story. Remember this is not a fictional story that she wrote, it's her true life story!
