In the stuffy Law firm where Tom Brodie is a partner, he is considered not quite the right type to deal with the ultra rich, spoilt, troublesome Emerald Carlisle. Unfortunately for his fellow partners, when a summons from Gerald Carlisle, Emerald's father arrives, Tom is the only available person in a position to help. And so the battle of wits between Tom and Emmy begins. This was a fun book, and I loved the sparkling dialogue and mischievous attitude of Emmy. Not a quiet, do as she's told heroine, she's smart, gives as good as she gets, and makes it hard for Tom to finish the job Gerald Carlisle has given him. As always with a Liz Fielding book the writing is great, the characters feel real and I'm hooked from page one. I struggled to put it down, so be prepared for a late night. I liked this book. It has some laugh out loud moments to it. A rich man summons an attorney to his home to have him find the man who is planning to marry his daughter to buy him off. He doesn't feel this man is marrying his daughter for more than the money. The daughter is marrying for a far different reason than love, but you don't find out the real reason unil the end. The attorney sees the daughter dangling from a drain pipe while talking to the man who is not usually his client and he says nothing. The daughter hides in his car and before he knows it he ends up taking her with him to France because he feels if he doesn't go with her he won't be able to find out where the meet up with the fiance is scheduled. The daughter keeps trying to excape him, she wantes to get to the fiance before he does. He ends up falling for the girl as much as he fights it. How does she feel. Well you'll just have to read, Eloping with Emmy! Here is the description of the book as found here on Good Reads:Hot shot legal eagle, Tom Brodie, has been landed with an assignment to test any man to his limits - do whatever it takes to prevent headstrong heiress Emerald Carlisle from marrying a fortune-hunter. He is not happy about it, and when Emmy stows away in his car, his day goes from bad to worse, but since she's the only one who knows where to find the man in question he has no choice but take her along for the ride. It's a bumpy one!Emmy is not a woman to sit back and let things fall as they will. She has a plan and she keeps Brodie on his toes in a rollercoaster chase across the UK and France. He's more than up to the challenge, but falling in love with Emmy along the way is always going to end with his heart in pieces
What do You think about Eloping With Emmy (1998)?
Cute retelling of "It Happened One Night," but I just didn't get into it.
