I love this series and this author. I loved the first 2 books, but it's definitely getting better as it goes. Can't wait for book 4. I read this book with my 7 year old and 4 year old (a chapter before bed). The 4 year old falls asleep pretty fast (a little too far over his head), but the 7 year old loves it. I wish the 4th book was out already because now I have to find something else to read until that is finished.I have really enjoyed everything this author has written (I've only read the youth books though, I know he has some other books that aren't young adult fiction, not sure if it's good). His writing style is great, keeps my kids attention and my attention. I want to find some more authors like this, good smart writing for young and old. This is the third book in the Ashtown Burials series. I loved the first book, "The Dragon Tooth" and was delighted in the sly rewrite of "Treasure Island". The second became more bloody and kinda weird. This one keeps up the frantic and the weird and is still bloody. But emotionally, I felt more connected to this book than #2 and felt Cyrus really grew up and took on the mantle of the Smiths. I, as a mom, put this in the YA category. But it is written for middle graders and the characters are young teens. This might be right up the alley for some kids that age. But the monsters and baddies are pretty horrible for some of the middle graders I know.Caveat Lector.
What do You think about Empire Of Bones (2013)?
I was startled how profoundly impacting this book is for fiction. It is true theology.
