Etta Mae’s Worst Bad Luck Day by Ann B. Ross is difficult to rate. For me it is a 3.5. This is the first book that I have ever read about a sweet, kind hearted gold digger. She says that all she really wants is the respect but I think the money helps. She hates that people think of her as loose and trailer trash”. She does live in a single wide and is very proud of her floral design sofa which is the highlight of her decor.When the story started, Etta Mae is a hard working woman who is lousy at picking husbands. She has “bettered” herself” by taking training as a nurse’s assistant. She works for Laurline’s Handy Helpers. That is how she met her fiancé, the notable and well moneyed Howard Connard, Senior. She was his handy helper and is still recovering from a stroke.The first part of this book seemed to go too slow so I was tempted to give up on it but I stuck it out and was rewarded by some belly laugh producing incidents in this book. There are a lot of stereotypes but the best part of the book is the humor. So if you decide to read it, just know that it gets better as the story goes along. Ann B. Ross is great at description and I could easily imagine all the characters and the “furnishings” in this book. I would like to read more of Ann B. Ross’s books. I've usually enjoyed the Miss Julia books in the past that I have gotten from the library. When I saw this one available for digital download, I got on the wait list and then got it (then my Kindle died a couple of days later, another story!). I did like the book, but it was definitely not my favorite of the Miss Julia books. It was just a little too much, a little too over the top for me, with Etta Mae's antics and language and carrying on. I'm ok with reading it, but was glad to get it free from the library.

Just a great fun read. Main character is very likable, you route for her from the get go.
