Everything I Need To Know About Christmas I Learned From A Little Golden Book (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
If you enjoyed the Little Golden Books as a child, and if you enjoy all things nostalgic and retro, then this book is for you. It covers getting ready for Christmas and Santa and uses the original artwork from Golden Books dating from 1949 into the 1970's. I absolutely adore this book and gave it to my sister who loved the Golden Books and who loves old Americana folk art. She raved about it.This is for anyone who wants to recapture that special little book feeling (but this one is much thicker than I thought!). Worth your time and it is a keeper too. What a clever way to showcase a variety of illustrations from the classic Golden Books! This is a tale of Christmas from the preparations, the gifts, Santa, the crowds, expense, and the peacefulness and importance of taking time to enjoy family and activities that make the holiday season special. It's really a book you have to read a couple of times to really appreciate it all. The first time through I found myself skimming the words of the story and looking at the caption to see what Golden book that particular illustration came from, then rereading the text. I also looked solely at the illustrations and another time still, took in the story itself in full. Parents and grandparents will find this dilemma delightful and children will enjoy the story. Not to mention, they will be exposed to the many talented illustrators that contributed to Golden Books over the years. The only reason I wouldn't do this in storytime is the size of the book itself, it's really better with small groups and one-on-one.
What do You think about Everything I Need To Know About Christmas I Learned From A Little Golden Book (2014)?
