2.75 stars. While I really liked the plot, I felt that the beginning of the story really dragged. Not much happened, in my opinion. I've come to love the Ilyan character in this book. I thought he was creepy in book one. I wonder if this change in character was purposeful, or the author wasn't sure what she wanted with his character in book one. What was a really, really big annoyance to me in this book was the foreign language. Now, a little bit maybe the four same words repeating throughout the book is fine. But entire paragraphs all through the book...? is not cool with me. We're reading a book in English. When I pick up a book, I expect to understand every word. And if the character doesn't know the language? Then I expect the narrative to go something like this, "He spoke again in Czeck. Again I tried to pick up words, try to understand anything, but all I picked up was conflict from the tense tone in his voice. I felt annoyed at being left out." By filling up pages worth of foreign text, I'm just wasting my time looking at it. I won't be able to read it. And even if I just wanted to know what it would sound like to the character, I don't even know how to pronounce the words (if I didn't care about what the words actually meant.) It is a waste of paper. I don't think the author expected anyone except the czecks to actually understand it. Considering the secondary official languages popular in north America are French and Spanish, only small minorities would understand the dialogue. Kind of defeats the purpose of a literary book if you ask me. Okay, I got that out of my system.I really liked where the plot and concept ideas are going with this book. It was crafty and entertaining. Looking forward to book 3. This series just keeps getting better I read this book as soon as I finished the first and it does not disappoint the story carried on from right where the first book finished and in this book we find out a lot more about joclyn and her power. We also find the truth about Ilyan and some of his past. I really look forward to reading the 3rd book as the ending just left me wanting to just read onto the next. Highly recommend to anyone who loves a good fantasy book with a sweet romance and a brill story. :)
