These Yasmin Galenorn stories are a Guilty pleasure of mine. The church book group is not where I am going to recommend this one, LOL! But awkward subject matter and non-church-approved lifestyle choices aside, I really like these "urban fantasies" by Yasmine Galenorn. Why? For me it's all about the characters and what the take home message of a book is. All the other stuff is well, just stuff to me. These stories are about overcoming hardships, realizing one's worth and value is about how one loves others, not about what has happened to them or how others categorize them. I love the supernatural genre because you can do some neat stuff in order to spin the story and tell the message. I think a lot of people get stuck on taboo subject matter, but to me it's exciting when I see people, even fictional ones, of seemingly opposed worldviews coming to the same conclusions that I believe are at the true core of what it means to be a person of faith. So to me, agreeing wholeheartedly with an atheist friend on what really matters in life, or reading about people who live much differently than I do, but who love for the same reasons and value the same things, is very gratifying. If some violence and sex alternate lifestyles, are not things you like to see in your books, I don't think you'll want to read these. But if you like a fun frolic on the edges of propriety and like getting to know characters, read a few of these. Over time (a few books), they are "family" similar to the way Joss Whedon was able to make the characters in the Buffy-verse feel like family. I didn't pay attention. For some reason I just can't connect with Menolly. Perhaps she is just too emo for me. I do like that she kicks ass and takes names so that is a plus. She talks like a sailor and doesn't put up with bullshit, even though she is tiny. I guess I agree with several other reviews in which they stated that the delivery is odd and the character development is lacking. I get why they are they way they are I just don't care. It never seems to get more in depth is just regurgitates. Honestly I still don't really understand or care about the war back on Otherworld.
What do You think about Şeytan Kadın (2011)?
Quick read for me, but excellent all around. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
