It was from fear. The turnoff that would take her to the lake and Caroline’s house was quickly approaching. First she had to cross over the short bridge spanning the creek. She slowed almost to a stop right before the narrow bridge hoping the truck would finally go around her. She didn’t want to lead the driver to Caroline’s door if he was up to no good.The pickup sped up and she let out a small sigh of relief thinking that he was going to pass her. The sigh turned into a strangled scream, because the pickup instead of speeding by slowed down and rammed into the side of her car.Faith tried to get a look at the driver, because if she made it out of this alive she wanted to be able to give Cole a description. She couldn’t do it. She was too scared to take her eyes off the road. Her little two door sporty compact was no match for the huge truck and her little car shot off the side of the road toward the gurgling water of the creek. She tried to maintain control, but the car lurched forward, bounced off the side of a sturdy oak tree, and rolled to a shuddering stop.Faith moaned and rubbed the side of her head. Her fingers came away wet and sticky with blood.
