أكشن / إنجليزيوليس كل ما هو إنجليزيا أمريكيالم تكن "الطلعة الأولى" بالسهولة المتوقعة فيما يخص الأسلوب والمفردات اللغوية المستخدمه، ورويدا رويدا وباستمرار التوغل وصلت لحالة من الاعتياد والتأقلم، وبهذه المناسبة أشكر قاموسي العزيز الذي عانى معي ويلات تلك "الطلعة بمشاهد قصيرة تنتهي كل منها بنهايات مثيرة دارت الأحداث، ومن الولايات المتحدة للندن لبخارست لطوكيو انقطعت أنفاسي لهثا وراء "آنا" .. لست وحدي .. كان معي "جاك" عميل الإف بي آي، و"كرانتز" القاتلة المأجورة، وذلك في محاولة لمنع المزيد من جرائم القتل الشنيعة، وحل لغز لوحة "فان جوخ" وتصحيح كل الانطباعات المزيفة نشرت الرواية للمرة الأولى عام 2005 أي بعد وقت كاف من أحداث 11 سبتمبر الأمر الذي استثمره مؤلفنا داخل الأحداث بصورة مبالغ فيها، كان ذلك عندما طردت بطلتنا "آنا" من وظيفتها في نفس الوقت الذي اصطدمت فيه الطائرة الأولى بالمبنى الشمالي من أبراج التجارة العالمية حيث يقع مكتبها وكان عليها أن تنزل على الأقدام سلالم أكثر من 68 طابق .. مشاهد مؤثرة ومحزنة للغاية .. أدهشني عدم إصابة البطلة بأي صدمات نفسية جراء ما تعرضت له وخاضته وكأن ما حدث لها كان لشخص آخر حيث استكلمت بكل بساطة ما كانت تفعله قبل الاعتداءاتأسلوب السرد ذو الايقاع سريع لم أشعر معه بأن هناك ما يستحق تذوقه واستحسانه من جميل العبارات، وعندما بدأ الجليد بالذوبان مع بداية الخط الرومانسي في آخر 100 صفحة تحول أسلوب الكاتب إلى فكاهي :Dكم يبدو جليا الاختلاف بين أسلوب القص الإنجليزي عن نظيره الأمريكي، الملاحظ أن المؤلف في كليهما يستخدم خياله في بناء عقل قارئه بمعلومات إما تاريخية أو فنية أو جغرافية للعالم كله في الوقت الذي يستخدم فيه مؤلف الأكشن المصري (إن وجد) خياله في بناء نموذج معرفي لقارئه مكون من الطرق المختلفة لتعاطي المخدرات بأنواعها، وأسماء الخمور والمشروبات الروحية المتعددة، هذا بالإضافة إلى كيفية ممارسة الـ ... إحممماصطدت الكلمتان التاليتان من الأحداثشلن - shillingتعريفه - tariffولا أدري هل هو تأثير الاحتلال البريطاني على لغتنا أو أنه العكسالرواية أكثر من شيقة وممتعه أنصح بقراءتها
Jeffrey Archer is looking into the world of Art and the handling of masterpieces. The background to the story is the 9/11 terrorist attack in the U.S.Just before that fateful day, Art consultant Dr. Petrescu is preparing her advice to one of the clients of her firm. What she doesn't know is that her boss Fenston has sent an assassin to eliminate the client so as to lay a claim to her fortune of valuable paintings. When she has a conflict of opinion with her bus, oblivious of what is happening in the background, she is flung in an adventure all over Europe to prevent the client's sister to lose all her fortune, in the meantime struggling to stay alive, followed by a vicious killer.It is a quite gripping novel that provides a detailed insight into the world of Art collections and wealthy magnates struggling to get the invaluable paintings in their private collections. Heartily recommended.
Audiobook. I’ve been a fan of Jeffrey Archer for years, long before the popularity of the audiobook. My first exposure being Kane & Abel in paperback format, and I was engrossed in absolutely wonderful story. Considering that Kane & Abel was one of Archer’s very earliest books, I’m wondering if he’s beginning to burn out. Briefly, False Impression centers around the ownership, stealing, and recovery of a valuable Van Gogh painting. It begins with a hair raising escape from the north tower of the World Trade Center in 2001, but has nothing to do with the terrorism involved. The inclusion of this horrific event seemed almost gratuitous. There are no typical Archer twists, no surprises. Simply a well outlined plot and the author moves through his story in a predictable fashion.Given that this review is of the audiobook, a few comments about the narration are warranted. A few of the voices are well done. Lady Arabella, in particular, is very nice. Most of the male voices are distinctive and recognizable throughout the book. However, Anna, the lead character, is atrocious and difficult to listen to, as her accent simply seemed … wrong. Given the necessary dialogue of this character, I had some trouble staying with the story without frowning on occasion. False Impression is narrated by Byron Jennings.

In the style of Dan Brown, but without the over the top villain. Oh the villain's bad, alright, just not superhuman. The story of a priceless VanGogh painting, set in New York, London, Bucharest and Tokyo, it holds your attenton, even though you know how it will end. The problem is, though, that Archer seems to get to page 500, and realizes he has to wrap it up, which he does in about five pages - all of a sudden it's over, everything's explained, and on to the next book.Otherwise, a good read, but not one that has me wanting to read everything Archer's ever written.
