I get a lot of book recommendations from io9.com, a sci-fi and fantasy blog. Between the rave reviews and the additional suggestions in the comments of the rave reviews, there are tons and tons of titles they toss out there. My experience with them has been very hit-or-miss; people who love a book I also loved will suggest X, so I'll get X, and at least half the time, it's nothing at all like the book I loved. I'm all for expanding my reading horizons, but I will also not suffer through an entire book just 'cause. This was one of those books. The writing wasn't bad, but I just couldn't get into the characters or the story. While this book is obviously disturbing to some readers, I think it's a shame that it has been been dismissed by many as "immature fantasy" or "pornography". I found it to be a fascinating character study into one women's struggle with mental illness. It's a brutal, raw read (think dental surgery without anesthetic). It also demonstrates remarkable honesty and humanity. Sadly, I think the reactions to this book mirror society's attitudes toward mental illness. If it isn't pretty, it's best to ignore, censor, or suppress. There is a place for this book. It might not be on everyone's coffee table, but I think it is a positive step in illustrating the (often frightening) complexities of the human mind.
What do You think about Feuchtgebiete (2008)?
Gewohnheitsbeduerftig, aber durchaus lesenswert. Hat mir unerwarterweise dann doch Spass gemacht.

I tried to find the purpose of this 'smutty' novel but maybe it should be read at face value.

Direct, row, painful but still somehow exiting. Amazing.
