Or shrouded. Or tiptoeing. Or something. Anything but walking nonchalantly through the halls, flinging open door after door and searching every room. But that was what everyone else was doing, so she did it too. First, she had run up and down the stairs and then up and down every hallway, looking for a room or section that was more heavily guarded than any of the others. She couldn't find anything like that. And she didn't feel Charity at all. She had hoped she would, that the same inclination Will used to find her would lead Ari to Charity. It wasn't. She also kept an eye out for what might be the main offices of the compound. She suspected they would be at the top of the building, but if they were they looked just like every other room in the place. So she turned around and started over, running back down all six flights of stairs. She hit the bottom floor with a thump, listening to her boots echo through the hallways. Strange.
