Fifty-Seven Lives Of Alex Wayfare (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
It was getting a 4 right up to the point that I realised the plot wasn't going to be resolved in this book. I like series, but there has to be some form of resolution of the plot in each book, a complete arc, and this doesn't have one. It gets as far as the 'big reveal' which should have come 2/3rds of the way through, and then stops fairly abruptly. And to add to the pleasure, it's published through an imprint that's just been cancelled, so the chances of ever seeing the plot resolved are diminishing. Applesauce!I DIDN'T EXPECT TO LIKE THIS SO MUCH. I have to say, I was really afraid this book would be like the Fallen series 2.0. But no. Thank God. It was so much better. It's too soon to say I'm in love with the Alex Wayfare series because only the first book has come out so far, but I definitely see potential.I wasn't sure about the way the chapters were structured at first, but I ended up liking the "subheadings" and the way everything was written. The coolest thing about this story was, obviously, the time-travelling. I've always loved stories that touch different periods in history, and this one wasn't a disappointment. The characters were pretty awesome in general. Alex, the protagonist was a nerd, but a cool nerd. Her life wasn't totally cliché like in most YA literature. And when I say that I like the female main character in a book, that's saying something. I usually hate all of them.As for Blue, I'm looking forward to reading more about him. I'm already smitten with his eyes. I can't wait to see what happens with Audrey and Jensen and Porter and how the story continues with Gesh. How could the book end there??? I'm seriously pissed off. I don't think I can wait so long for the second book. It's gonna kill me.
