I think I'm odd man out in my group of reading friends. They gave this one 5 stars and it was nowhere near that for me. I love Barrons but he's not in these books enough for me. 95% of the book is Mac and nasty gross creatures. Had to force myself to finish this one but did like bits and pieces of it so it gets a 3 from me. Cliff hanger was so not fair that I will at least read the first part of the next book to see how that bit of story truly ended. Prologue was stupid. A PSA about technology and the media ruining young people. And how if she could find the words she would say this or that and other BS and it's like bitch you just found the words so stop already. Chapter one and a page in and I'm ready to DNF this. it randomly switches too Danny's POV which makes no sense. Mac talks to the reader all the time (wish she wouldn't) and this is her telling her (fictional no matter how many times she tells the reader it isn't) story. With a narrator like this, IMO, you can't just switch narrators. Too me it doesn't work. Plus I hate Danny. She's an annoying teenager I don't care about her POV at all. If I wanted the POV of a teenager I'd read a YA book. The little I read it's just trying too hard to sound like a cool teenager and for me it just isn't working. "'Cept me,' I mutter with a swagger and a grin." -Danny ... And this is just one example of her POV and it's just annoying. And it gets worse. Holy shit. "I have reasons to be cocky. Uh-Huh, I'm that good."
