Fletcher And The Snowflake Christmas (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

I got my copy from Scholastic and it has been renamed Fox and the Snowflake Christmas. As far as I know that is the only change though I am not certain. Fletcher the fox is afraid that Santa won't be able to find the rabbits' new home. So he and his friends make a trail of arrows pointing the way to the rabbits' new home. But it snows on Christmas Eve and the trail is covered. Will Santa find the rabbits?I thought this was a sweet story of friendship. Fletcher and the other animals care deeply about their friends the rabbits. They each bring gifts for the rabbits in case Santa was unable to find them. It is a story of unselfishness, caring, and love. The illustrations are really beautiful as well. Adorable Christmas story. Fletcher is worried that Santa won't be able to find the Rabbit's new burrow. So he makes a trail of arrows made of sticks. It snows that night and covers the sticks. So he and his forest friends decide to stay up all night, and when they see Santa, give him directions to the Rabbit's house. They all fall asleep. When they go to Rabbit's the next day, they find that Santa did find it after all. They describe all the yummies they brought, but the Rabbits insist that the best thing they brought is themselves. I LOVE the illustrations - gorgeous watercolors - and a beautiful glittery Christmas tree at the end, lit with candles. My 5 year old and I reread the story just to pore over the illustrations. The story is sweet, about the kindness of friends and what's most important at Christmastime. I also like that the idea of Santa is mysterious in this book - there's not one picture of him or corny "ho ho ho" or pile of gifts, electric lights, etc. It's very lovely, natural and peaceful.
