Flirt! 5 Romantic Short Stories (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Having just finished a WW II book, this book of five flirty short romance stories is such a respite. The stories were about ladies in their mid or late twenties who all wanted to find "the one". Though standalone, each with their separate heroes and heroines, and story lines, the stories flow from one to the next where obscured characters in the former would become central in the next.Predictability factor is high, but they were enjoyable that way. I got this for free and I'm actually tempted to buy the other flirt sets. Having previously read and enjoyed The Hot Girl’s Friend (the first story here) I had a pretty good idea that I would like this collection. It turns out I was right…and wrong. This is likely going to sound a bit crazy as I am about to complain about one of the things I actually liked. The stories are formulated in a way so that they are interconnected. The beginning of each one ties into the previous, they all deal with the same locations, and briefly some of the same people. This is nice, because it gives a great deal of continuity to the collection. But, I also feel like it’s a bit of a cheat, as the use of the same locations allows for even less of a descriptive quality to the stories than most shorts have. Taken individually, each story would be really lacking in finish because they need to tie together to make sense. Read all in one go, the separate-but-together theme of the collection makes it feel a lot like you are reading an outline for a novel, rather than a finished piece.
