Following Atticus: Forty-Eight High Peaks, One Little Dog, And An Extraordinary Friendship (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Frankly, I didn't want this book to end. I loved reading about Tom and Atticus' travels in the 4000' peaks of Southern New Hampshire and gallivanting on the streets of Newburyport, MA. Each hike to the top of a mountain was unique despite the fact that they climbed all of the peaks numerous times. I highly recommend this (non-fiction) book about one man and his faithful terrier, who also is a mountain climber in any kind of weather! If you have an appreciation for classic literature and poetry, a passion for nature, and perhaps snuggle up with a four-legged friend at night, this book is a must read. A prose of more thoughts than actions and dialogue, this book is like sitting down to have an intense conversation with Tom Ryan. It was a relaxing read that always inspired me to gather up my own little dog and hike a mountain and to really soak up the time at the top. The hiking descriptions are not intense, play-by-plays, but more pensive and experiential. Tom takes you on a journey of finding himself. A beautiful read. My little pup and I enjoyed it immensely.

Tedious, self-important, and sappy. I didn't care for this one.
