Forest Fire (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This I give a high 3 to a low 4 stars. It was good and entertaining enough, but the heroine REALLY REALLY REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. I think Netriet said it best, "You've had a bum deal, I'll admit it. And it's gotten to your head. You've been handed the job of your dreams, and you spit on it. You've been given respect and position, and you act like a guttersnipe. And you've got Syrus! Jeez, Syrus! And you hurt him and send him away. More than a few other women would be happy to swoop in and comfort him, myself included. But he's ;yours, forever, without question, because he's your destined life mate. He'll never love anyone but you. Why do you reject it?" (@74%) While Netriet was trying to talk some sense into Forest, there came a time where she "cracked a vicious slap across her face...Her handprint glowed on Forest's cheek" F I N A L L Y.....the moment I've been waiting for. even after that, she still made some stupid decisions and it irked the hell out of me! I felt Syrus could do better.Aside from Forest not being one of my favorite heroines, the way Phillipe plunged to his death was unremarkable. He played such an part in the first book, I thought he would have died some other way. It was fitting because it was by the hands of his vampire slave Netriet but I felt that was pretty week.Speaking of Netriet, I was actually intrigued with this character. She came off as this defiant vampire servant who did not like Queen Christiana. She supposedly did some terrible things that caused her to be kicked out the of the castle and used as a desposable messenger. Well, this little vampire was a fighter. She endured the tortures of her captor Phillipe, leaving her with only 1 arm. When she plunged to her death expecting to take Phillipe with her, she survive the long drop, Phillipe didn't. Then she went into the woods and collapsed, only to be put together by the spiritual being in the forest. Netriet was saved but with some changes, some she would've rather have died than to live with. I would've love to read more about Netriet and her story. The fact that Syrus and Forest get their happy ending, I'm totally honky-dory over it! But it was Netriet who I wonder about....what ever happens to her? why did she have such ill feeling towards the Queen? what will she do with her new transformation? will Shi ever come out and tell you what has become of her and she's the reason behind it?So many questions and no answers, booooooo!!!But I'm still gonna start the next book, Verdict, LOL!! :) This sequel left me a little disappointed. First of all for the first couple of chapters, we are only introduced to new characters. There is no sign of Syrus or Forest, it's all about people I had not know before and that confused and annoyed me because I wanted to know what was going on with them. When they did finally appear, it all seemed too easy, fo lack of a better word. Forest was banished, Leith on her heels, Syrus still blind straned in the other world but suddenly everything just falls into place.Syrus just shows up at her home, they confess their love and after a passionate night all of her marks from Leith just disappear - how convenient. Leith suddenly is no longer a menace because he was no more power over her either - how convenient. There was no struggle at all for the main characters. I don't mind it if things work out okay for the heroes of the story but instead of bringing in several pairs of new characters and scratch the surface of their stories, confusing the reader at times, I would have preferred to simply have a focus on the few characters we already knew but give them a real story. Strife, struggle, surprise then success. But after the first reunion of the two I wondered why one should continue reading if in theory they already have their happy ending.
