Items too large for the shelves were simply placed in the middle of the mill. He’d agreed to oversee this part of the new operation that his family was getting into, and wanted to make sure that everything was just the way he wanted it. When Aunt Georgie and Palmer walked in, he went to greet them and show them around if they had time. But the closer he got to them, the more he could see that something was wrong. Even his cat was a little on the nervous side when he got to them. “Everything is fine.” He nodded but peered over his aunt’s head to look at Palmer. He nodded that she was telling him the truth. “We just had a few things going on at the jail and I had Palmer come to get me. We were going to pick out some new carpet for the library anyway.” Palmer was in love with Gerard’s aunt. Any fool could see that.
