Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Bottom line: Tom Lichtenheld's illustrations are terrific and it's a really fun idea, but ultimately it's not worth the massive hype. I didn't see it as anything hugely original, but it's whimsical and cute and will of course become a favorite for its target audience. The noise cues are fun, though I'm not sure they're a great idea when trying to have bedtime. Also, this is just a pet peeve, but I kept finding that the iambic pentameter rhythm was being disrupted by dialect and pronunciation differences. It's worth buying if you have a little one who's very into trucks and building sites, but otherwise, make it a library priority. This book is about a construction site where trucks are working to build buildings and roads to get their job done. The trucks know once the sun sets, their work day is over. There are many different trucks the book goes through as well as the workload and what they d as the sun sets. I would definitely recommend this book to elementary school level children interested in trucks. It covers a good portion of them and what they do. It is also a good tool to show children how things are built and how much a truck has to actually do. It’s kid of relatable to humans. We work during the day and get what we need to get done, but once the sun sets we go to bed and get ready for the next morning.
