Growing Up Duggar: It's All About Relationships (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I really wanted to like it. I find these girls to be fascinating and I wanted to hear what they had to say to their viewers. I also was intrigued that they voiced the book themselves. The language and cadence of their speech was stilted and formal. It did not feel like a story or like they were really talking to me. It felt scripted (and of course it was) but the phrasing and jokes scattered throughout did not roll off the tongue in an easy way - they were forced. I watch the show in horror, and now I can continue to be horrified through the book.... (i"m not sure exactly why I do this to myself). I know this is going to be bad, but I somehow can't help myself......wow, did they really compare being a transsexual to not liking your nose or shoe size? This is going to be such a train wreck...So I was apparently hoping in vain for some actual behind the scenes stuff about the Duggars, but this was simply a teenage Christian propagandized self help book about dealing with the various relationships in your life. There were things that were maddening (see transsexual reference above), and ignorant (or at the very least simplistic), but it's hard to argue with their sincerity about their faith/lifestyle (even when it makes me to grab them by the shoulders and scream "WAKE UP!").All-in-all, I have to give this one star, because I definitely did not like it. But if I was a teenage fundamentalist that wanted some encouragement about not staying away from the temptation of hand-holding while courting, I probably would have been all over this.

What do You think about Growing Up Duggar: It's All About Relationships (2014)?

An interesting book on how things are done in the Duggar household and why they live as they do.
