Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 1: Cosmic Avengers (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
This first volume managed to exceed my expectations – and I was expecting to absolutely love it. Other than having seen the (amazing) film, this is my first real interaction with these characters, and I have already grown to love each of them. It is impossible not to root for the underdogs, and equally impossible not to consider their triumphs my own. I feel like I am part of the team – it is all too easy to fit in with a group where each individual is flawed, their smartass comments feeling truly close to home. These characters know that they aren’t perfect, but that is what makes them so cool. They are happy to be exactly who they are, and they accept each other despite their many mishaps. They may screw up again and again, but their hearts are in the right place: they just want to protect the galaxy from evil. And they do so in totally awesome, really badass ways. Frankly, what’s not to love? Good stuff, but NOT what you would want to read expecting a complete story, especially if you're someone coming to the comics from the movie. In all fairness, the various backstories (kind of) are packaged here, but the main arc leaves you on a massive cliffhanger waiting for the next volume. So, yeah - no troubles with the content as it is, just the wish for the 2nd volume to be in my hands immediately after this one.
