Gunnerkrigg Court, Volume 1: Orientation (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Wonderful, I'd start kids off in 4th or 5th grade with it though. It is commonly said by followers of this comic that Tom Siddell (the artist and illustrator) knows everything because of all the little hints and details he hides in the backdrop and scenery of the illustrations. Lovable characters, a quirky set, a distinctive art style and an extremely intelligent person behind it all make this story well worth reading. And yes, I do read the webcomic.5/5 for what should be at least a 6/5. I had a bit of a slow start with this acclaimed web comic, as I tried to figure out what the heck was happening, & definitely struggled a bit with the unusual cadence of the language used. It's a strange story set in a strange location populated with strange characters, but I slowly got sucked in & wanted to find out what happened to Antimony (Annie to her friends) & the group of students she attends her definitely unusual boarding school with next. I'm still not sure that I fully understand all of the mythological references, but the artwork is cool, the story line has a fair amount of excitement, mystery, & adventure, & I'm definitely going to see if more is revealed as things continue.

Really good book. A little hard to understand at first, but I got it at the end.
