J.M. Madden will always stand out in my mind against other authors of military romance because she doesn't shy away from the real ugliness that can happen. The Lost and Found series heroes are all former soldiers released from service due to physical and/or emotional trauma. Grif is missing his right hand and a portion of his arm. He's been 'combat modified', he tells the object of his affection. Grif's book is a surprise baby story. It's a short read so I'm hesitant to spill too many beans. If you haven't read any of Madden's wounded heroes, I highly recommend all of them. This is a short story or novella. It was published as part of an anthology, but I read it separately and then this comment is abut just this one story.Very well put together and carefully written, this is the "2.5" installment in the Lost and Found series. I like the series, and this story fits in nicely. In relation to the entire series: Disability and the traumatic emotional scarring military people suffer is a touchy and difficult subject in many levels. The author faces it head on and in a simple straightforward way, and she shows understanding of the psychological landscape that sorrounds this group of people, whithout drama.Well done.
I read this in the anthology - somewhere is my review...hmmm will lookBut just go get it!
