Excellent start to this series! Gives us great background information on all three main characters, Duncan, John and Chad and how they got together to start their amazing agency Lost and Found. It was sad to see how three courageous men were brought down by their war injuries, but by staying positive and maintaining their friendships and Marine brotherhood they moved forward and put their amazing skills to use in helping the public. I first encountered this book, and its author, at the Lori Foster RAGT during the Friday evening signing. There were a lot of authors there...over 100. I stopped by each of their tables, picked up information and swag, but it was this book and the one following that had me still thinking about it the next morning. As soon as I went downstairs Saturday morning, I tracked the author down, and I'm so glad I did.The Embattled Road is everything a prequel should be. We get to know three marines who have been injured in battle. These are guys with scars both inside and out. The author did a great job bringing the reader a firsthand account of what led them to the VA hospital through the men's dreams. It put the reader right in the heat of the action and gave us a glimpse into each man's personality.I knew this was a prequel going into the story, but I still wasn't sure what I would get. So far, I am impressed with the authors writing style as well as the way she's set up the start of the series. On to book 1, Embattled Hearts.
